Early Life and Military Service

Adrian Toscano, more affectionately known as “Tru,” was born in Park Slope, Brooklyn, in 1984. Tru served in the United States Military from 2008 to 2012, and upon returning to civilian life, he ventured into the music industry, managing his brother.

Transition to Filmmaking

In 2016, Tru picked up a camera, embarking on a journey that would redefine his career. The self-taught videographer, director of photography, director, and editor has never looked back since.

Music Video Career

He began his filmmaking career by shooting music videos, working with artists such as Smoove L, Fetty Wap, 6ix9ine, Rich the Kid, Lou Got Cash, Benny the Butcher, Lady Luck, DJ Jay Hood, Capone from CNN, Daz Dillinger, 917 Rackz, Manolo Rose, Ron Browz, D Chamberz, Chinese Kitty, Doe Boy, Scarlip, and Kyah Baby.

Expansion into Television and Film

After solidifying his reputation in the music industry, Tru’s aspirations led him to pursue opportunities in television and film. Some of his notable projects include two episodes of “Urban Eats and Treats,” a TV show produced by Kevin Hart’s LOL Network. He directed the feature films “Hard Laughter” and “Sin,” both produced by Wynn Publications, as well as documentaries such as “Witness For The Defense” and “Born to Box,” executive produced by Curtis Scoon.

Recent Projects and Achievements

In 2022, Tru directed two feature films, “The Throne” and “Everybody Dies,” both distributed by Homestead Entertainment and Dame Dash Studios. Tru’s versatility and talent have made him a multifaceted creator, adding the role of editor to his impressive resume.

Upcoming Releases

At the start of 2024, Tru released “The Pale White Horse,” a project also written by Matty Tosca, on Tubi and Cineverse. The film features some cast members from the acclaimed series “The Wire.” Tru recently completed filming “Will You Marry Me,” starring Jamal “Gravy” Woolard and Nya Lee from “Love and Hip Hop.” This movie is currently in post-production and is set to be released in the spring of 2024.
